Drifting/Hand-Braking questions! hey guys im new here i have a 95 318 ti, now im originally a honda guy not used to rwd. i did my first little drift/slide today but i have questions, lets say im in 2nd gear roughly 2500 rpm and im in a parking lot (safely) and im going into (lets say its a corner but its just turning in the parkinglot) the corner and i rip the hand-brake then drop it real fast to get the slide, then gas it. will this f*ck anything up in the car/differental? also what happens in the differental when i pull the hand-brake? sorry if that all sounded retarted im not good at explaning. thanks for the help guys. |
Dunno if it hurts anything, but I've been doing it for a while, and I haven't noticed any damage done yet. Probably just a matter of time. But usually what I do is just start accelerating, turn really hard and floor it as the same time, and prepare for a slight counter steer. Perfect to do at stop signs. Not really a complete drift, but it avoids the ebrake, and is a lot more fun. |
wow you guys are ****ing stupid. Especially you Maverix because you have an automatic...Just think about what an ebrake does and how an automatic works, then tell me if your doing damage. |

You guys are lucky you don't have hydraulic e-brakes, otherwise "just pulling" the e-brake would be a terrible idea. But since the e-brake is cable operated you aren't going to lock the rear wheels when you pull the e-brake............................................................................................... ..............................................................unless you press the clutch in first. |

The end answer is it should not really hurt the car to use the e-brake. It will wear out the brake because its not designed for really stopping the car repeatedly, and IMHO you should not need it to initiate a straight up drift. I've also seen BMW's warp rotors when the park brake is over used. Why not go take some car handling schools and learn it? They are freeking blast, most fun you can have with the lights and your pants on..... And you'll just have to get used to the smart ass answers when you start talking about street racing, street drifting at least from me, because its these activities which hurt the whole auto sports group. We have enough negative press as it is. Cheers! Dave |
Can you guys please keep the language clean? "PG" would be great, thanks. |
?? are you referring to my post? the only word I can pick out is now allowed on prime time tv.... Which makes it <PG I assume.... ;) Now back to important stuff like how can I make my TI beat a Yugo in a light to light street race in a school zone, using the crossing guard for a cone and the handicapped buss for a chicane... Dave. |
