Oil In Cylinder #2... Lately i've noticed my ti has been down on power. I have had to give it more gas then usual just to get it up to speed and can't just give it partial throttle to cruise. I decided to do a compression check since I read you should do it after you over heat your engine, as mine overheated after breaking the waterpump belt. I knew things weren't good when I pulled the plug wires and there was oil at the end of #2. As I suspected there was oil in the threads and the electrode on #2 cylinder was dark black from burnt oil. I continued to check the compression on all cylinder; #1 was 180 psi, #2 was 165 psi, #3 was 150 psi, and #4 was 150 psi. My guess is its either the head gasket or a piston ring. what do you guys think? |
I had the same thing with the #2, I replaced the head gasket and I still have oil in the #2, I hoping that would fix it but I knew the chances were slim. So I would says its your piston ring. |
i had oil in my cylinder also so i bought a new head gasket and spark plug gaskets i think...............it was so long ago......the guy who had my car before me cross threaded the sparkplug and it shot out the motor |
The #2 cylinder does seem to be the first to go, that's the one I lost first also on an overrev. Really difficult to say for sure what's going on without opening up the engine, but I'd also guess you fried things pretty good without any water in there. |

Andrew, I would try replacing the valve cover gasket including the ones that go around the spark plug holes. This may cure your problem with the oil in the spark plug hole. Clean off the plugs, check/clean the injectors and lastly, run an injector cleaner or even seafoam. The compression check being higher on #2 than #3 and #4 in encouraging. This fix will cost less than 50 bucks if you do it yourself. I would definitely do this before removing the head. |
yea mine shoot out twice...and the second time i was on a date....=( messed everything up i didnt get laid hahaha |
