turbo or supercharged? i have a 97 ti and i want to know what would be best to get a turbo or getting it supercharged? good or bad comments welcomed:smile: |
Search the site a little, there's a lot of info here. Turbo - expensive and complicated to do correctly, but good HP gains. Supercharger - expensive and modest HP gains, but the DASC is relatively simple to bolt-on. |
DASC just started recreating their SCers. So I'd definitely get my hands on one, before they decide to discontinue them again. Which I'm sure it wont be long. |
definitely do a supercharger, if you do a turbo you have to rebuild the whole engine to take the boost, then it has to be tuned, that is all pretty expensive with a supercharger you can just bolt it all on then drive a little bit until the computer can relearn how to run |

Actually, it's stage 0. Stage 1 at least has a tune. |
go with a s/c. turbo is more complicated and more expensive, although if done right you see better results.. but thats time, money and alot more wrench turning that just bolting up a supercharger. and when did dasc start making their s/cer kits again? maybe i wont go for the 335 motor for a while.. ill just go for small boost on my m44. dont listen to anything i say!!! jess is right i dont know what im talking about. happy now jess that i am not misleading anymore? |
it was a earlier this month, they found old stock of the discontinued Eaton supercharger and started putting kits together again http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27141 |
I'm from Portugal and I'm trying a few days a contact with Jim Godrooe from Downing Atlanta but with no luck. I have a 1997 BMW 318 TI. Can you tell me if they stop selling the DASC! I contact also Nick G for the Stage II kit and have no answer about prices. Now I’m trying to contact KO Performance. If you can help me with this contact problem I’ll appreciate. |
I say Turbo! Just because everyone else has said Supercharger. :) The SC would be easier. |
Supercharger/Turbo article Here is a link to an article on induction using a 318ti as an example. http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tech...percharger.htm |
$3800 for a blower, a piece of cast aluminum and a bunch of connectors is absurd. I think they'd do much better with considerably higher sales volume at a price point somewhere around $12-1700, considering how many E36 318x m44/m42 are still on the road. Surely they're making a mint with their current component costs and markup every time they sell one. |
Turbo Charged...Some guy is offereing a free install in Florida. Total cost should be less then $2,000 and you will see same reliability plus more HP. Turbo charged is the new way to go on E36 ti's....I think... xxxJohnBoyxxx |
