318ti died

Hi I am new to this blog. I have a 1997 318ti. I have had it for about 14 years. Anyway; I was driving home and stopped at a rest area. When I came out it would not start. I then waited two hours and it started. I drove it home and now it won't start again. It has been idling very fast/high, cutting out at acceleration and thats it.

Diagnose it!

How is the rubber on harmonic balancer ? That can make it hard to start

Look for a leak on the bellows pipe and ensure both coolant and air temp sendors are working correctly.

Thanks to all for the information

So I have replaced the camshaft sensor, checked the bellows pipe and all connections and still nothing. It just cranks and cranks and cranks with no fire? Any other suggestions? harmonic balancer rubber is fine. I drove it home and it never started again. It has been idling very fast/high, cutting out at acceleration and thats it.

Crankshaft sensor? They get old and die..
Fuel filter?
Fuel Pump?

Fail to start is always spark or fuel if you have validated spark then its a fuel system problem.
