Mtech front and rear bumper on 318ti - Help

Hi everyone.

I guess his has been asked before but I cannot find a concise answer anywhere.

I have a 1997 318ti. It came with a sports pack without the mtech bumpers which were released later.

I have now sourced a secondhand set of front and rear mtech bumpers.

What is the procedure to swap them over. Is it a straight swap or will I have to make adjustments.

I want to attempt this myself so if anyone has any instructions or advice I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Swap right over

The front bumper has bolts under the strips.
The rear bumper cover has clips with pins in the middle that you'll need to remove. Also, there are the clips inside of the rear wheel wells. Look at the hole location on your new rear cover...that will indicate where there are clips on your current bumper. Pretty much a straight swap. No need to modify...it'll fit.
Have a friend help you line it all up. It's easier.

Guys, thank u so much.

I was reading about the front centres of the support bar having to be removed.

Will give it a go. I have had the car since brand new and want to freshen it up a bit.

This will add a great look to your car. :)

I hope so.

Just one thing that worrys me is that my car is artic silver and the guy I am buying them off says he is not sure if they are artic silver or not.

Will soon find out.

Can I use my existing fog lights or are the mtech ones different?

They are the same.
Keep us posted with pictures once you've completed the swap.

Hi everyone,

Its taken nearly a year to source all the bits I wanted and put them on the car, but its finally done and I love it!!!

Total amount spent including spraying £265.00.

I just wanted to thank all of you that helped me with my questions.

I have a few more but will post separately.

Thanks.

I want to replace the exhaust next but was wondering whats the best diameter I can get away with without cutting the rear diffuser.

Was think 4" (inch) but not too sure.

Any ideas?

There ya go. Wasn't too hard to install right? I think it looks great. Money well spent!

T1x 03-07-2013 01:50 PM

haha.

Just took my sweet time getting round to doing it.

Thank you so much for your help.

Was going to sell it, but it only has 50000 miles and is immaculate.

We have had it since brand new and it has never let us down.

Badges next and exhaust.

Will keep you posted, hoping that it will not take another year!!!!!!

Perfect!
You can't sell the car until it has over 200,000 miles and looks like crap. lol
keep it for another 15 years and enjoy it. Looks great!
There are many aftermarket exhaust options available to you on that side of the pond. Look into the SuperSprint system. You probably don't want a 4" exhaust on there...it'll be loud as hell and drive you out of your mind.

will have a look. Thanks.

in terms of badges I have ordered these from ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...E:L:OC:GB:3160

in your experience will they fit?
