Thinking about selling the '02 for a Ti. Hello everyone, My name is Josh and this is my baby. I've recently graduated from the chiropractic college and have been thinking about a more "practical" car. Then my friend came over with a cali top 318ti, oh boy lol. The 2002 was bought new in California by a woman. She was actually a renown Professor at the University in Berkeley. Eventually it was sold to Joseph the owner of Munich Motorworks. No corners have been cut on this car, and quite a bit of money has been spent. I know I'll never get another early model with all of these hard to find ( near unobtainable) parts. It's hard to find any webasto top 2002's let alone one for sale with the rare color. What do you 318ti-er's think? Should I keep it, or will I be happy in a Ti? (The car i'm looking at is a 96 m tech 318ti in alpine white) 1970 BMW 2002 Early Model "Roundie" in Colorado Orange INTERIOR: Perfect Glass AutoPower Street/Sport Roll Bar Early Sand Dollar Guages Recaro Sport Seats and rear seats reupholstered and flawless Sport Steering Wheel Vintage Period Correct VDO Guages in center console Original Wood Shift Knob and 5spd Shift Knob E30 325ix Rear View with Map Lights New Webasto Top (can you say $$$) New Headliner Brand New Carpet Kit Trunk Carpet Kit Headunit and 6x9's with Remote and Ipod Hookup Engine/Trans: BMW M10 170,000 ( new intake, exhaust, valve cover, timing cover, oil pan gaskets) 5spd conversion New clutch Shortened Drive Shaft Short Throw Shift Weber 38/38 with an electric choke Tii Exhaust Manifold Ceramic Coated Full Ansa Exhaust Bosch Blue Coil Pertronix Electronic Ignition Brand New Cap Brand New Wires Brand New NGK Plugs Fresh Oil Fresh Coolant New Radiator Brand New Ultima Red Top Battery EXTERIOR: "Roundie" Taillights Euro Turn Signals Euro Hella Headlights Original Emblems Early Kidney Grill and Headlight Grilles Authentic Zender Rear Spoiler - installed temporarily with 3m double sided tape Rubber grommet new for between the body and mtech turbo kit Turbo Air Dam - new uninstalled Fiberglass Rear Bumper - new uninstalled Turbo Fender Flares - new uninstalled ( The top half of car was plasti dipped for an "alpina" theme. 1 Attachment(s) Why not both? 02s and ti's complement each other well. What the 02 lacks in practicality, the ti has. The ti lacks in utter 'rawness' compared to the 02. |
I wouldnt sell the 02, you'll miss the hell out of it |
:) Skyline Blvd... Cool car,, Wish the timing were better,, cant handle another project right now.. I'd be all over that one.. Dave. |
you have a rare round back 2002... WHY would you want to get rid of that??? |
keep the 02, buy ti to daily drive for a while... srs drive the 02 like once a month or w.e .. you will miss it if you sell... i gave my bro my 91 325ic e30 and miss the crap out of it... haha... though the ti is still fun to drive. |
o2 might sell my 318ti with s52 in it, 2oo2 looks good I like 2002's |
I guess I just don't have the time/space for a project honestly. Too bad you are so far away morgan... The market for bmws seems crazy right now too. clapped out e30's selling for 3k? ... What do you guys feel a fair selling price for the car is if it were in your garage? Thanks again!! Note* ( I have every piece for this car pictured or not including the original documents.) http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...D512965C3F.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...D50A5C093D.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...D51CF9D052.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...D524A62577.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...D52DDEFFD8.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...04217ED148.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...040870A84A.jpg |

Locally I see a couple of TI's for sale: http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/3817914361.html http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/3762454938.html You'd hope the first would be nice for the price. The second looks like it could use some work but the price is right. I thought about buying it, but it's an auto and I really don't need it. |
FYI: it wasn't ever actually called a 'cali top' by BMW. It was called an 'Open-Air Folding top' or just folding top. There was never a 'california package' offered on ti's and they aren't all that rare either... there are less ti's without an open-top or sunroof than there are with them. So the hard topped ti's are the actual rarest ti's. btw: the replacement for the open-air top motor is like $475 and takes months to get. The gears inside are plastic and are not replaceable. I had to change my tops motor as it was hopping open instead of sliding smoothly! |

mines a webasto.... |
awful news Yipes! I am so depressed to see this - - still its not 'cali - top' but California Roof. Oh well close enough. That was the Canadian brochure but the USA brochure is probably the same. Weird my 288 Morea Green is not an option in the link above that you posted. though it calls the Engine an M44 so that's gotta be 1996 Brochure. I am going to buy the 1997 brochure on ebay... However, in the BMW TIS (internal service manual), the cars build sheets and realoem.com its Folding Top (sunroof is sliding top) or Open-Air Folding Top. I guess I just dislike the term 'Cali-top' sounds stupid, like it only works in California. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...id=47506&hg=54 I want to see if I can find the German domestic brochure.. the build sheet didn't call it that though - its option 755 INDIVIDUAL OPEN-AIR FOLDING TOP KC82551 Type code CG83 Type 318TI (USA) Dev. series E36 (5) Line 3 Body type COMP Steering LL Door count 3 Engine M44 Cubical capacity 1.90 Power 103 Transmision HECK Gearbox AUT Colour COSMOSSCHWARZ METALLIC (303) Upholstery STOFF MILLPOINT/GRAU (D7TT) Prod. date 1997-09-16 Order options No. Description 214 AUTOMATIC STABILITY CONTROL+TRACTION 240 LEATHER STEERING WHEEL 315 REAR WINDSCREEN WIPER 337 M SPORT PACKAGE 481 SPORT SEATS F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER 494 SEAT HEATING F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER 520 FOGLIGHTS 530 AIR CONDITIONING 540 CRUISE CONTROL 550 ON-BOARD COMPUTER 676 HIFI LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM 704 M SPORT SUSPENSION 755 INDIVIDUAL OPEN-AIR FOLDING TOP 818 MAIN BATTERY SWITCH 925 SHIPPING PROTECTION PACKAGE |
