Help no air!!
 

Hay guys,
Got in the car this morning went to turn the heater on (it was really early and a tad chilly!) And nothing! No motor sound at all. Turn it to 4 though and it burst into life as usual. Aircon works, Hot and cold air will come out but just no fan unless its on setting 4..Any ideas chaps?? :frown:

Blower motor resistor, aka final stage unit. Easy fix.

K anyone know the part number? Iv tried lookin on realoem and cant find it..Plus anyone know if I have the "hedgehog" style one or not? Do these things normally just go then? Was working fine yesterday..I even pulled off all the dials as I was giving the inside a good clean..just wondering if Iv knocked anything but cant see anything that I could have....

It should be just the resistor, and it may only need the contacts cleaned (they oxidize over time).

Cheers buddy, got headache staring a his screen!! will chek the contacts 1st..Just out of interest when ur fans on 4 (full) how loud is it? Mines really loud so i never use it that high if poss..which is annoying coz the airflow through them is pants anyway!!

Any one that ever has this problem DONT FOLLOW THE GUIDE ABOVE!! the sensors under the bonnet, not under the dash (as I found out after 4hrs of dismantling and searching!) Thanks anyway tho Aceyx appreciate the effort and the help.

By the way from a dealer the part was only £17.50 so cheap fix and really easy to do once u work out where it is!! (iv done a diy now)

Hi Oakley, iv bought the resistor from the dealer but can I hell find out where it goes! I too spent a couple of hours looking under the dash but no joy as I think this is just on the e36 coupe/saloon. Where abouts is it on the compact? Cheers mate.

Ahhhhhh brilliant, thanks very much, il have a go at that, however the resistor i have (has small coils on it,like springs) looks different to the one in the pictures.:confused:

I would have thought giving the Vin number at BMW Parts would give me the right part, but when i asked him about where it is situated, he told me it was behind the center console which just confused me more, looks like hes given me the wrong one then, maybe for a coupe?

Do some browsing at realoem.com and see if you can come up with a part & number for what you're looking for. Then check prices at pelicanparts.com.

Thanks roadrash yeah that's the DIY. There are some different resisters depending on aircon etc- mine has aircon. Best thing to do is pull resistor out an take a look - when I changed mine it took the dealer a few attempts to get me the right part!! Useless!!

Iv just whipped the resistor out once i got in from work, only took 10mins thanks to the diy guide!ha. (Easy when you know how):smile:
Looks like the part i picked up last week is for cars with no A/C, so mines the same as Oakleys by the looks of things. Really plan and simple looking part though! im returning it tomorrow, so fingers crossed! Cheers guys!
