DASC Idler pulley help please
 

Hi all
I need to replace my DASC Idler pulleys
Problem is I live far away in Africa

Will these Miata 2,5" pulleys fit as a direct replacement ? or with modification

Fenner FA3002 is mentioned as the original pulley, but what about the other one with just one flange ?
Can one fit 2 of the double flanged FA3002 ?


Please help as I dont want to be stuck without a car.
I can order from most US online stores, so please give me ideas

Not sure about the dimensions on the single flange pulley plate (I'm guessing you mean the later one with one pulley). If you got a 96+ car, just put a BMW oem pulley on there. See my dasc thread for more details +pics

I have a late 1996 M44 motor ( Euro 318is sedan)

It is the 2 plastic idler pulleys (one before and 1 after) the supercharger I need to replace as they are getting very old and I am scared of a failure.

The 2 can be seen in the picture below i found on the net. (One has 2 flanges and one has 1 flange)

Did you just use 2 OEM BMW 70mm idler pulleys ?

Did you have to make any changes to the belt length or mounting bolts ?


This would be my easiest solution as they are easy to get from BMW here.

I didnt have to do a whole lot to it, I used the standard 70mm pulley off a 96+ M44, I didnt cut the bolt to size (just used whatever bolt I had lying around), but I will when I have to inevitably replace the bearing. I am running a slightly smaller pulley (86 instead of 91mm) so think the excess tension on the belt wasnt too bad from what I calculated at least. The single pulley configuration uses a 63mm pulley, so I didnt think it was too bad if you account for all the circumferences.

My advice is use the single pulley configuration if you can, and put an OEM pulley in there. Oh - I forgot I had to space out the OEM pulley with a bunch of 3/8" washers (9.5mm), but when you torque it all up, it works well. I ran it for probably 10k miles so far and I got no complaints so far.

I have never seen the single pulley configuration.
Any links to pictures ?

Thanks, I saw those, but they all look like yours with the 2 idler pulleys.
1 on the DASC kit bracket and one on the alternator.

Oh alright, I must have missed that on the pic. Yea, the BMW oem pulley should work, but it will put a bit more tension on the belt.

I have ordered 2 BMW pulleys and im also going to get a slightly longer belt to make up for the difference.
I have a smaller supercharger pulley already fitted, so belt will probably be close to original DASC size.
Will test fit a few to see whats best.

Been worried my toy will stop working soon as I can hear the bearings of the idlers quite loudly when I spin them by hand at the moment.

I know of a guy in the uk that makes the ones I've got but they were not cheap but they are alloy with top notch double row bearings in

PS - does anyone have a 3.4" pulley for dasc they are looking to sell? I just wanted to see what it would feel like with a little extra boost.

Lee-those bearings look cool, but I can imagine what they would cost... :)

Thanks Lee, I saw those in your other posts.

They look wonderful but must cost a fortune, especially if I must buy them in Pounds and ship them across the world.

Im going to try out the BMW ones with a longer belt as its the easiest to get here.
Will take my time and get them lined up just perfect.

Also have to get a new radiator and thermostat, so will be doing a big job.

Wonder why Downing Atlanta never just used the BMW pulleys ?
Cost of adding a 2nd one to the kit ??
