Blue console lights I've done it! 16 Blue LED's later, i have finally transformed the lights on the centre console from orange to blue. I know it's nothing new, and many have done it, but i'm just really happy with the result. things, changed: power window switches X 2 sunroof switch X 1 Ashtray X 2 cig lighter ring X 1 + 3 burn out :) Clock X 4 light angle adjust X 1 oh, and 1 in my alarm keyfob :) and 1 for the flashing alarm inside the car. the climate control and Dash will not be able to change with just LEDs :( My Head Unit also has Blue lights. looks really good in the dark. i'll post some pics once i find out how to do it :) |
:_paper: :useless: :_paper: Upload the pics to your gallery |
Yeah, that's what i meant. i couldn't work out how to upload to my gallery. (a silly as it seems) |
these pics were taken when i first attempted the mod. haven't done the clock yet. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...1lightsoff.jpg |

i think that looks fresh as hell!!!!! i wish i had four hands so i could give that four thumbs up!!! where do did you get your leds from??? |
I like the factory orange lights. This is what i did... http://www.318ti.org/gallery/showpho...500&ppuser=912 |
Thanks Will, got the LEDs from ebay. heaps cheaper than the electronic stores. for the price of 2 from the stores, i got 10 from ebay :) That looks pretty cool, Tyler! I didn't like the orange lights. can't think of the right word to describe it, but the cool blue was a nice change, even though i've onlyhad the car for a bit over a month. i might do some mood lighting in blue too. and eventually get the electro luminecent dials. :) |
I like the idea of the blue lights but imo the orange is easy on the eyes. I swapped out all the interior bulbs with leds and the picture doesn't do justice, they are mega bright. If you do decide to do lighting this is where i bought my bulbs from. www.superbrightleds.com |
is any store have that kind of led bulbs? I wanna change couple of them but i don't wanna order online. |
what size bulb do i need to get for the console? (the window buttons, clock, etc.) and what size do i need for the lights that are down by my feet? |
i only bought a bunch of 3mm LEDs. the window switches could possibly take the 5mm LEDs. but i bought the 3mm's just to be safe. i only bought them online coz they were alot cheaper than buying from stores. but if you wanna buy from the stores, you should be able to get them from electronic component stores. dunno what type you have in the states, but in the UK, they have them at Maplins. in Aust, you can get them from either Dick smiths electronics, or Jaycar. :) |
Does it look good considering the lights on the dash are red? How does it look |
I think it looks great, but coming from a VW and entering the bimmer world, I'm used to the blue lights. I think the orange looks very normal and bland. The blue interior lighting is actually the reason why I got a VW. Anyways, how does your new blue console look with the orange dash? I'd really like to see the dash lighting. I want to change that to blue, and do the console like you have. I fall asleep at night driving with orange. |
