Cali Top

Do they make any alternative to the cali top? Such as if i wanted to remove it and put a piece of glass over it?

lazoh 09-27-2008 04:28 PM

From the factory they don't and I have not seen a glass version of it.

Anything is possible for the right amount of money. That would be pretty sick, replacing the cali top with a piece of glass.

I thought that they wouldve had something like that already but I guess not.

I've seen them factory installed on mini's and an X3, cool looking, but somewhat dangerous in a rollover

If the contour is close, cut out the roof of a mercedes C230 hatch that has front and rear moon roofs. Work the metal to get the contour right. Weld cross braces front, middle, and rear. Set it in, sheet weld the seams, and some blending to ensure a smooth contour. Splice the electrical connections to operate the moonroof, cover with new headliner, and drive.

Kidding of course.

Do you not like the cloth?

I love the thing. Keep it maintained.

Mallard 09-30-2008 07:04 PM

thinking about it, a tinted glass top would be seriously pimp!

I love my cali top. I've never really done any maintenance on it though. What kind of preventative maintenance things can I do?

Mallard 10-01-2008 09:17 PM

keep the runners clean and well greased

An inpregnating fluid to keep it waterproof , especially in the wet and windy months

dont do 100mph on the motorway with it open...

DaedHead8 10-01-2008 09:19 PM

Whats a good grease to use in the runners? Also, should I just clean them with water or some sort of solution?

Mallard 10-01-2008 09:24 PM

a good quality non acidic bearing grease will do the job.

You could go the full 9 and get some PTFE grease , but thats going ott really

Brush the runners out with a soap water. then dry and grease
