XP pro...

And yes, you can still get it installed new on laptops and desk tops... Just look in the business section of most manufacturers websites...

I work in IT and strongly recommend Windows 7. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been. It has the stability of Vista, but the performance of XP Pro. XP is pretty much outdated, and everything is pretty much heading towards 64bit.

64bit allows for systems to utilise memory above 4gb. There are i7 systems that support 12gb of ram and i5 support 8gb of ram. This may not benefit you directly, but what will benefit you is as 64bit applications become the norm, your notebook will be able to runn the applications while XP will not.

XP does have a 64bit platform, but it's pretty much been discarded and there's very little to no driver support for it.

I've been using Windows 7 since Microsoft released the final retail version on their web site 3 months ago. I can't give enough praise on how good this product is.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my Q6600 8gb desktop and my 4gb Core 2 Duo HP notebook.

I've got 7 professional 64-bit and I love it. I had XP before this and decided it was time to upgrade. I am glad I did, it's a great OS.

7 all the way. No problems so far.

I'm curious why you'd join a car-related forum and your first question is about computer operating systems. LOL

Windows 7 is pretty good. I did the beta testing on it and was impressed. It is not a resource hog like Vista and was very stable in the beta form.

I have no gone full Windows 7 at home. I like to wait until I have to:wink:

Windows 7 was good to me and I'm IT enabled

Go with 7. I've been using the release candidate on my netbook for months now and it is able to keep up with my dual core desktop running vista an all but the most graphic intensive stuff. It is a huge improvement. As for xp, let it die already...it has had a long life.

i just put 7 on about an hour ago so far so good and it sped things up a bit. but i got the 64 bit home edition

pdxmotorhead 11-22-2009 08:52 AM

Make sure your CPU has both 64bit and long instruction set if you want 7 to work the best.
