Gauges / Datalogging for HPDE

Hi all,

Looking to add some affordable in car gauges to keep track of things during this season of HPDEs. At a minimum I'm looking for oil temp, oil pressure and coolant temp. Datalogging would be nice but not looking to spend hundreds / thousands on a full standalone cluster from AiM / Stack / Racepak / etc.

Two options seem to be:

1) An in car gauge / scan tool that plugs into the OBD2 port (e.g the ScangaugeII: http://www.scangauge.com/products/scangaugeii/)

2) Wifi / Bluetooth OBD2 scanner with smartphone app (e.g. GoPoint BT1a with DashCommand on iPhone: http://www.palmerperformance.com/pro...mand/index.php)

The Scangauge tool seems straightforward (if a little dated) while the DashCommand route includes a lot of great features but seems to be a bit more sizzle than steak ... Not sure how I feel about trusting Apple to tell me when I'm overheating

Anybody have any experience with either of these solutions / could recommend something better?

You'll only get coolant temp from the OBD2. Need other gauges for oil temp and pressure.

I typically run a bluetooth obd2 scanner synced to Racechrono on track days. It pulls coolant temp, rpm, and throttle position data to match up with the GPS data created in racechrono. It's cool but I'd really like an external GPS with faster refresh rate. An AIM solo would be awesome.

I was pretty sure oil temp / pressure weren't available via OBD2. Haven't been able to track down a clear answer either way for our cars. Sounds like a no though.

Picked up a Scangauge locally anyways. Should be good for checking / clearing codes and at least keepjng an eye on coolant temp.

AIM Solo is on my list for next year once I learn how to drive ...

If you are interested in traditional dial gauges for oil press and temp, bimmerworld in dublin, va, sells them along with a two gauge mount that replaces the top cover behind the steering wheel, in front of the dash board, so clear line if sight.
