What model ti do you own? |
my ti is so 'base' i don't even have ASC.. oh wait, that's a good thing! |
What's the difference between a club sport and a sport? I have an original 1998 TI broucher and it doesn't list the club sport as an option. Option for my year are: Base Active Sport |
My car is sort of wierd. It's a '98 and I'm the second owner. I assume it's a base, because I don't have cruise, OBC, or foglights. But I do have other things that are not base. I assume these were options that were added: California Roof 15" alloy wheels Synthetic leather seats Premium sound system Artic Silver metalic paint I also have ASC, but I thought that was standard. |
Since you don't have the standard active options, OBC, cruise, you can rule out active. The 15" wheels would mean you have a base. If you had M-technic trim, it would be a Sport. I had a California Roof in my 98. It really liked that option. |
Yeah, the roof is what sold me on this car. I was thinking that my 15" wheels were not stock because they are 10 spokes and I thought stock wheels were five spokes? What does the M-technic trim look like? I was able to dig up a Vehicle History Report that I got from the dealer. Here's some info from it. Model Code: 9830 CG73 Color Code: 0309 Artic Silver Metal Trim Code: K5SW Black Leatherette Production Date: 1997/10 Vehicle Option Information 0098 Alp Radio C33 0782 100% 9830 0755 California Roof 0942 Special Charge I'd really like to know what 9830 is. It's shows up in the model code and as an option. No luck with Google or searching 318ti digest archives. |
Here is a photo of my 1998 Sport with California Roof. The front bumper shows the M-technic trim which is also used on the luxury M3 package. |
Here's a photo of mine. It's similar, but not quite the same....and no foglights. |
Actually, I'm in the US...the euro plates are purely cosmetic. |
I've got the Cali top as well ... I was wondering how many TI's there are with the California top, I wonder how rare it really is ... Has anyone had their cali top replaced ? I'm wondering how much that'll cost me if I ever have to get it done ... |
tipsyaj: if you ever have it replaced tell me.. i'll find a way to put that puppy in my 'ti'. muahaha.. |
I have the 95' model Sport. The one that looks like the active package on the outside. |
:( Can someone help me I am new to the site and I don't know if I have a "Sport", "Active" or "Base". I have a '96 Boston Green ti, w/cruise, moon roof, no fogs, 1.9L, 4sp. automatic or tiptronic manual, OBC, witham/fm cassette prewired with factory plug for direct connect CD changer and I have upgraded from the ten spoke 205-60-15's to the seven spoke 205-55-16's off of the 2000 323i. I have seen a couple of similar ones here without the skirts and front spoiler painted, when I purchased mine they were already painted. Are there any other engine specs I should know about? This is really a cool site! |
My guess is you have an Active. If you had M-technic trim I would say you had a Sport. Being that you have cruise and OBC I would say you have an Active. Cruise and OBC was standard with the Active although available as options on the Base and Sport. |
I just purchased a Club Sport model from a dealer in Ft. Colllins Co. It is a nice car, I love the color hellrot (bright red), and the red/black interior inserts. I will try to post some pictures of it later today. This is my first bimmer and I love it! When I was looking at the car at the dealership a BMW driver honked and waved as he went by. That suprised me, with my Acura Legend no one else even knew what it was. I never had a driver of another Legend wave or anything, even if I waved at them. |
I have a 1996 Active with a California top. |
hey tastade, did you get that ti on the dealership right after the railroad tracks on college ave.? if so i looked at it a few times and really liked it. i just moved to the kansas city area and i'm currently looking at a 96 with the california top, its silver metallic with a five speed. how much did you end up giving for your ti if you don't mind me asking. they are asking 9500 for the silver one and i'm not sure if thats a good deal or not. |
Yeah, that is the one I bought. That dealer that always has the used BMW's and Audi's. I ended up trading for it, but their cash price would have been about 7,500. I traded my Acura legend and paid a difference of about $4500. They were asking $8500. It needed new tires and a window, otherwise it was pretty good mechanically. I have put about 10k miles on it without a problem. It is in storage for the winter now, I just moved to Iowa and don't want it to rust. Quote:

another cali-roof here, with active package. |
'98 Sport w/ California roof and Kompressor (Downing Atlanta Supercharger). The DASC easily fixes the only criticism I've ever heard about the ti--i.e. not enough power. I now have ~210hp (at the crank) in a 2800lb chassis which allows this "Budget M3" to keep up with (stock) E36 M3's on track straightaways as well as in the turns! ...and I still get 28-30 mpg around town! BTW, I replaced the stock M-sport suspension, too. If you have an Active or Base and would like to upgrade the handling, please email me. Asking only $250 plus shipping for 4 lowering springs (~.75") and 4 shocks with ~75K one owner miles. |
I bought my beautiful piece of black magic after being told that I could no longer drive my '88 Mazda RX-7 'vert due to a sky-diving accident I had a few years ago. This is my first Automatic, but I don't find it to be that much of a difference for my needs. I have noticed the absent feeling of "interactiveness" of having not to shift gears, but hey, it's all good as far as I'm concerned. I was a little remiss to hear so many people sometimes bad-mouthing the 318ti. I finally had to realize that this was nothing more than a control tactic and that I needed to just "get along and enjoy my bimmer!" |
Man for only 300 ClubSports made there are sure a lot of owners here |
I have a 1998 M-Technic bumpers, fog lights, 16" wheels, 225 50ZR16, ASC, 5 speed, California roof, heated seats, No crusie control. Just a clock, no OBC |
1997 Sport w/ California Roof, 5spd, black on black (now I have a grey M3 Vader interior), no cruise, no heated seats, no OBC. But then again, how many factory equipped cali roof 5spd. sports have you seen? :mrhappy: |
I had a 98 California Roof, 5 speed until I wrecked it. :( |
I have a 1996 California Edition. 5 spd. OBC, Black with grey leatherette, cruise, and 15" 5 spokes. And my car didn't come with fogs, but I did just add them. |
the only option on my car at the time of purchase was ASC+T. i added fogs, (non-factory) cd changer and the OE 16" alloys. there are other things i'd love to do to it, but all my hobbies are expensive. since the ti is my commuter, it only gets a little more than just what it needs. |
pretty base for me too, '98 ti with leather heated seats, moonroof, spoiler and then there's the stuff I added on to it like the 17" zender rims, foglights, upper and lower eyelids, white lights (front, side, back)...and still working on it :) |
'95 Sport, Jet Black, black interior, sunroof, manual, limited slip. Bought it new Feb '96, had a May '95 build date. Painted the rockers, M-Technic front/rear bumpers, M moulding, Supersprint (I love this pipe), powdercoated '95 double spokes with 235/40 17 Pilot Sports. It's either a supercharger for the ti or a used E36 M3 in the next few years. I would keep the ti no mater what other BMW's I would own. Who knows, maybe a track car in its future? |
I feel like such a fool asking, but I have no idea which model my baby is... maybe one of you could help me out... I have ASC, Sun Roof, Cruise, Manual Tranny, Heated Seats, Fabric Interior, Power Mirrors, and I think the original head unit was an Alpine Casette/Stereo, that has since been changed out for a newer and much better Alpine... I don't know what else to list... It struck me as odd, initially, that the seats were non-leather but it had a fancy option like heated seats. I don't know, whatever it is I love it. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what model mine actually is, thanks. |
Upon looking at the TI Companion I came to the conclusion that mine must be an active package... I left out the following features in my last post: 15" alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and shift knob, on-board computer, remote keyless entry system and alarm, one-touch windows But the active still doesn't explain the heated seats... it's so confusing |
Is my 98 318 TI A Sport if it doesn't have crusise control, but everything else, with normal leather seats it has the trim on the outdside. |
I am in the Uk and the specs maybe different to the US.Dont think mine is a sport I think it is a 318Ti with sport package. Its a 97 or 98 not sure :ashamed:.Colour is Montreal Blue Mtec sports seats Mtec suspension Sports steering wheel AC & elec sunroof Body coloured bumpers & skirts Foglights Centre armrest Rear headrests Wheels are alloys and original BMW fitment for year, hard to describe not 5 spoke but rather like minilites. Checked all this with BMW who advised all of these as optional extra`s. |
I've got a Club Sport... ...I think. Mtec wheel & gearstick (plus the colour coded bumpers & skirts), 16" BMW Style 42 alloys, ABS, aircon, cd-changer, ASC. And it's Sienna Red. |

Oh wait, I stand corrected, I thought we were talking US. I don't believe the UK had a Club Sport. They did have some other models that the US did not have. |

An Active is a step up from the base model. Actives had cruise, alarm and your wheels standard. The base had steel wheels with hubcaps. |
